The traditional attire of the Tamang people is deeply connected with their cultural identity, social values, and way of life. Although there are slight variations depending on geography and local customs, the core features remain the same.

Gyaba / Docha (Trousers): Loose and comfortable trousers suitable for movement and daily work.

Patuki / Khadi (Sash): A cloth tied around the waist, making work easier.

Tamang Cap: A distinct cap, considered an important part of cultural events and ceremonies.

Women’s Attire

Singa / Tunga (Gunyu-like dress): A long piece of cloth draped around the body.

Blouse / Takto: The inner garment worn with the dress.

Hangpa (Shawl or wrap): A traditional cloth worn over the shoulders, especially in colder regions.

Jewelry: Such as large earrings, pyakchi (head ornaments), coin necklaces (gyesupa), and other traditional ornaments.

Distinct Features

Tamang attire is practical, comfortable, and harmonizes with their natural lifestyle.

It is worn especially during festivals, weddings, Lhosar (New Year), and other cultural ceremonies.

The attire represents not only the historical identity of the Tamang people but also symbolizes social unity and cultural continuity.
